Studio You wins Sport Industry Award

4th May 2023

The This Girl Can project was recognised at last week's ceremony in London.

Our ground-breaking Studio You digital PE resource has won the Active and Wellbeing Award at the 2023 Sport Industry Awards.

A streaming platform featuring more than 140 video PE lessons designed to appeal to the least active girls, Studio You scooped the prestigious gong at last week’s awards in London.

Developed in conjunction with education and social impact experts Hopscotch Consulting, Studio You was launched in September 2021 and has reached more than 100,000 11-16-year-old girls to date.

Claire Edwards (TGC head of activation), Becky Hipkiss (new business and marketing director at Hopscotch) and Dani Ward (TGC marketing activation manager) celebrate with their Sport Industry Award.

And for This Girl Can’s head of campaign activation, Claire Edwards, it’s a significant step for the Sport Industry Awards to be recognising the role PE can play in shaping positive relationships with sport and physical activity.

“We were thrilled Studio You was recognised at an awards celebration of this calibre, as the standard of the other nominees was incredibly high,” she said.

“Studio You has allowed us to translate the This Girl Can ambition into a school setting, and we’re so proud of what it has achieved since its launch in September 2021.

“Alongside our fantastic partners on this project, Hopscotch Consulting, we can’t wait to see what the future holds for Studio You.”

The Netflix-style video platform was designed to designed with input from both teachers and teenage girls, and features non-traditional disciplines – enabling time-poor teachers to inspire the most reluctant girls to get active.

Backed by National Lottery funding, it’s empowering teachers to create positive PE experiences for all girls, regardless of their background or ability, and to inspire the next generation of women to be active in a way that works for them.

And Jenny Anderson, associate director and Studio You lead at Hopscotch Consulting, was delighted to see their work being recognised by the wider sporting industry.

“It’s testament to the hard work and passion across the Hopscotch and This Girl Can teams, as well as all our partners, who are committed to inspiring girls, of all backgrounds and abilities, to enjoy PE,” she said.

“Now in its second academic year, the Studio You movement continues to grow and we hope this win will amplify the platform further, getting it in front of even more girls so we can move PE in a new direction.”
